Amanda airs the 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. newscasts on WVLT and the 10:00 p.m. newscast on CW Monday through Friday. In addition, she serves as an Executive Producer of Digital Content.

Her title award-winning journalist comes after she has been honored with five Emmy awards and more than two dozen nominations, seven regional Edward R. Murrow awards, and more than 14 Associated Press awards including “Best Reporter” in Tennessee and “Best News Anchor” in Tennessee multiple times.

Tennessee is a place she considers home despite being a native of Snoqualmie, Washington. Hara’s family moved to the Volunteer State when she was studying at Washington State University. She decided to follow her family after she graduated and saw her brother off when he was joining the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

A job that creates memories is one’s first job, to Amara, her first job was in Evansville, Indiana where she covered a devastating tornado that killed 25 people, filed reports for both CNN and the Weather Channel, and covered a series of stories that prompted change at a local animal shelter.

Being a longtime equestrian, her next stop was Lexington, Kentucky which was the best place for her. She had grown up showing Hunter/Jumpers, helping her mother breed, deliver and train three foals on their small horse farm, and playing on the Washington State University Polo Team before she started competing in Eventing. In WLEX in Lexington, Amanda was awarded an Emmy for a report on the historic Keeneland racetrack. In addition, she worked at a thoroughbred farm in the mornings, helping break horses for the track. Here is also where she picked up her first thoroughbred, “Unafraid” who she now keeps with her in Knoxville.

Hara’s career became full-circle when she moved back to Tennessee to work at WTVF in Nashville. This is the place she had the opportunity to share incredible stories alongside some of the most talented photojournalists in the country. Apart from meeting some of the most talented photojournalists in the country, she earned an Emmy for her coverage of a Nashville firefighter who was sickened by hazardous materials while on the job. Her other Emmy nominations came because of airing stories about a homeless mother attending college, a therapy dog working in Vanderbilt’s pediatric cancer wing, a massive horse rescue, and many others.

Amanda’s career as a journalist began when she was a child after her parents allowed her to start a small neighborhood newspaper selling 25-cent copies. After reporting on missing pet hamsters and garbage pickup day, she realized there was much more to journalism and that television news was the path to follow. In addition, she argues that no other medium combines pictures and words to create such powerful messages.

Hara spends her free time with her husband and their son Håkon. All three are most likely getting herded around by their two Welsh Corgis “Sparkle” and “Floki.”She is also always looking for new ways to give back to East Tennessee and share the stories that matter most to viewers.
