Gwen Tolbart is an American journalist serving as a meteorologist at Fox 5. She reports stories on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the station’s evening shows and also gives weather forecasts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. Before that, she worked at CBS in Dallas. She also served on the Board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in Washington D.C. for 14 years.
Besides being a journalist, she has a very strong community commitment, interest in the youth, women’s causes, as well as reinforcing positive direction. She has always been active in community service in Canada and the USA as well. Gwen’s broadcasting career began in her birthplace Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She started in Community TV as a Host/producer of the Black Community Communications Media’s news magazine program called “Black Is”. She also contributed to the radio show called “Black Speaks”. From there, she joined Canada’s nationally-aired “Weather and News Anchor.
Gwen also served CTV’s Montreal CFCF-12 as their weather anchor. There, she served as a reporter on the consumer advocacy program called “Fighting Back”. Moreover, she hosted the internationally syndicated award-winning travel show called “Travel, Travel”. In 1997, she joined KTVT CBS-11 based in Dallas, TX as their weather anchor, feature reporter, and also as a host of the station’s Live audience talk show called “Positively Texas”.
From her coverage, she earned a Weather Team Emmy, five National Association of Black Journalists Broadcasting Awards, as well as a 2000 Media Person Of the Year award. In 2002, she joined the Nation’s Capital and WTTG FOX 5 DC as a weather anchor and reporter. She has since earned 5 Emmy nominations and three Associated Press awards for her coverage at FOX5.
While serving at CBS in Dallas, she tutored elementary school children, offered a hand in setting up mentor programs and workshops for at-risk girls and also single teen moms.
