Owens has appeared as an actor on a number of popular television shows, such as Search Party, High Maintenance, Modern Love, and Abbott Elementary.
Owens spent his childhood in the East Baltimore neighborhood of Maryland, where he was born. He cited the musical Hairspray as an example of a show he watched as a child that influenced his decision to pursue a career in musical theater. He had a deep appreciation for the music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim, and he developed this passion while attending the performing arts camp Stagedoor Manor.
