Scott Shannon is an American radio disc jockey. He is currently hosting the morning show for WCBS-FM in New York City as well as Scott Shannon Presents America’s Greatest Hits which is syndicated nationally with United Stations Radio Networks and Entercom. Previously, he worked for WHTZ, WPLJ, The True Oldies Channel, and The Sean Hannity Show.

Scott was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 25, 1947, however, he spent the majority of his childhood as an Army brat in Indianapolis, Indiana. During his time serving in the military, he launched his career in radio at WFBS (1450 AM) in Spring Lake, North Carolina (later WMRV). After working at that station for some time, he moved on to WCLS (1580 AM) in Columbus, Georgia. Following his discharge from the Army, Shannon began a full-time career in radio at WABB in Mobile, Alabama. It was there that he first became known as “Super Shan.”
Following a brief period of employment at WMPS in Memphis, he relocated to Nashville, where he worked as an evening disc jockey at WMAK (1300 AM) until eventually becoming the program director for that station. While Shannon was working at WMAK, Neil Young recorded various contacts with her as well as an interview with her for his film Journey Through the Past.

Within the field of broadcasting, Scott is notably well-known for his role in developing the “morning zoo” concept, which had its premiere in Tampa in the early 1980s on the station WRBQ. The Q Morning Zoo show, hosted by Scott and Cleveland Wheeler, served as the model for hundreds of other morning shows across the United States, each of which adopted the same general format and moniker. Edens Broadcasting, the company that operated WRBQ at the time, held the trademark for the name “Morning Zoo” for a while. During that time, the show was called “Morning Zoo.”
After that, he brought the idea to the fledgling WHTZ (Z100) radio station in New York City in the early 1980s. He established the Z Morning Zoo along with Ross Brittain, who had previously worked as a disc jockey on WABC’s Ross & Wilson Show. Within only 74 days of going on the air, he was the driving force that helped Z100 become the highest-rated FM station in New York City. This accomplishment was accomplished thanks to him.
